DRB Wherefore as by one man sin entered into this world and by sin death: and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned.

DBY For this [cause], even as by one man sin entered into the world, and by sin death; and thus death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

ASV But not as the trespass, so also [is] the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many.

WEB But the free gift isn’t like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

YLT But, not as the offence so also <FI>is<Fi> the free gift; for if by the offence of the one the many did die, much more did the grace of God, and the free gift in grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abound to the many;

DRB But not as the offence, so also the gift. For if by the offence of one, many died: much more the grace of God and the gift, by the grace of one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

DBY But [shall] not the act of favour [be] as the offence? For if by the offence of one the many have died, much rather has the grace of God, and the free gift in grace, which [is] by the one man Jesus Christ, abounded unto the many.

GNV But yet the gift is not so, as is the offence: for if through the offence of that one, many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man Iesus Christ, hath abounded vnto many.

LSB But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

Verse 16

KJV And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

ASV And not as through one that sinned, [so] is the gift: for the judgment [came] of one unto condemnation, but the free gift [came] of many trespasses unto justification.

WEB The gift is not as through one who sinned: for the judgment came by one to condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses to justification.

YLT and not as through one who did sin <FI>is<Fi> the free gift, for the judgment indeed <FI>is<Fi> of one to condemnation, but the gift <FI>is<Fi> of many offences to a declaration of `Righteous,'

DRB And not as it was by one sin, so also is the gift. For judgment indeed was by one unto condemnation: but grace is of many offences unto justification.

DBY And [shall] not as by one that has sinned [be] the gift? For the judgment [was] of one to condemnation, but the act of favour, of many offences unto justification.

GNV Neither is the gift so, as that which entred in by one that sinned: for the fault came of one offence vnto condemnation: but the gift is of many offences to iustification.

LSB And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the gracious gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification.

Verse 17

KJV For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

ASV For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, [even] Jesus Christ.

WEB For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.

YLT for if by the offence of the one the death did reign through the one, much more those, who the abundance of the grace and of the free gift of the righteousness are receiving, in life shall reign through the one--Jesus Christ.

DRB For if by one man's offence death reigned through one; much more they who receive abundance of grace and of the gift and of justice shall reign in life through one, Jesus Christ.

DBY For if by the offence of the one death reigned by the one, much rather shall those who receive the abundance of grace, and of the free gift of righteousness, reign in life by the one Jesus Christ:)

GNV For if by the offence of one, death reigned through one, much more shall they which receiue that abundance of grace, and of that gift of that righteousnesse, reigne in life through one, that is, Iesus Christ.

LSB For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Verse 18

KJV Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

ASV So then as through one trespass [the judgment came] unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness [the free gift came] unto all men to justification of life.

WEB So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life.

YLT So, then, as through one offence to all men <FI>it is<Fi> to condemnation, so also through one declaration of `Righteous' <FI>it is<Fi> to all men to justification of life;

DRB Therefore, as by the offence of one, unto all men to condemnation: so also by the justice of one, unto all men to justification of life.

DBY so then as [it was] by one offence towards all men to condemnation, so by one righteousness towards all men for justification of life.

GNV Likewise then as by the offence of one, the fault came on all men to condemnation, so by the iustifying of one, the benefite abounded toward all men to the iustification of life.

LSB So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.

Verse 19

KJV For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

ASV For as through the one man`s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.

WEB For as through the one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous.

YLT for as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the one, shall the many be constituted righteous.

DRB For as by the disobedience of one man, many were made sinners: so also by the obedience of one, many shall be made just.

DBY For as indeed by the disobedience of the one man the many have been constituted sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many will be constituted righteous.

GNV For as by one mans disobedience many were made sinners, so by that obedience of that one shall many also be made righteous.

LSB For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were appointed sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be appointed righteous.

WEB The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly;

YLT And law came in, that the offence might abound, and where the sin did abound, the grace did overabound,

DRB Now the law entered in that sin might abound. And where sin abounded, grace did more abound.

DBY But law came in, in order that the offence might abound; but where sin abounded grace has overabounded,

GNV Moreouer the Law entred thereupon that the offence shoulde abound: neuerthelesse, where sinne abounded, there grace abounded much more:

LSB Now the Law came in so that the transgression would increase, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,

Verse 21

KJV That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

ASV that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

WEB that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

YLT that even as the sin did reign in the death, so also the grace may reign, through righteousness, to life age-during, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

DRB That as sin hath reigned to death: so also grace might reign by justice unto life everlasting, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

DBY in order that, even as sin has reigned in [the power of] death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

GNV That as sinne had reigned vnto death, so might grace also reigne by righteousnesse vnto eternall life, through Iesus Christ our Lord.

LSB so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
