Study Lenses

The verse centers on "completed", "investigating", "married", "foreign", "wives", "first", and "month". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "completed" and "investigating", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The nearby context moves from verse 16's "But the exiles did so And Ezra..." into verse 18's "Among the sons of the priests who...", so "completed" and "investigating" belong inside that flow. In Ezra context, the local focus is covenant, worship, and faithfulness.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "completed" and "investigating" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
