Chapter Text

26:1 Of David. Give justice to me, O Yahweh, for I have walked in my integrity, And I have trusted in Yahweh; I will not waver.

26:2 Test me, O Yahweh, and try me; Refine my mind and my heart.

26:3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth.

26:4 I do not sit with worthless men, And I will not go with pretenders.

26:5 I hate the assembly of evildoers, And I will not sit with the wicked.

26:6 I shall wash my hands in innocence, So I will go around Your altar, O Yahweh,

26:7 In order to proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving And to recount all Your wondrous deeds.

26:8 O Yahweh, I love the habitation of Your house And the place where Your glory dwells.

26:9 Do not take my soul away along with sinners, Nor my life with men of bloodshed,

26:10 In whose hands is a wicked scheme, And whose right hand is full of bribes.

26:11 But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; Redeem me, and be gracious to me.

26:12 My foot stands on level ground; In the congregations I shall bless Yahweh.

The verse centers on "david", "give", "justice", "yahweh", "walked", "integrity", and "trusted". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "david" and "give", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local LSB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "david" and "give" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "david" and "give" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
