Chapter Text

43:1 Give justice to me, O God, and plead my case against an unholy nation; Oh protect me from the deceitful and unrighteous man!

43:2 For You are the God of my strength; why have You rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

43:3 Oh send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy mountain And to Your dwelling places.

43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.

43:5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him, The salvation of my presence and my God.

The verse centers on "light", "give", "justice", "plead", "case", "against", "unholy", and "nation". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "light" and "give", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local LSB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "light" and "give" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "light" and "give" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
