Chapter Text

61:1 For the choir director. On a stringed instrument. Of David. Hear my cry of lamentation, O God; Give heed to my prayer.

61:2 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

61:3 For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength before the enemy.

61:4 Let me sojourn in Your tent forever; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.

61:5 For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name.

61:6 You will add days to the king’s life; His years will be from generation to generation.

61:7 He will sit enthroned before God forever; Appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may guard him.

61:8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever, As I pay my vows day by day.

The verse centers on "choir", "director", "stringed", "instrument", "david", "hear", "lamentation", and "give". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "choir" and "director", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local LSB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "choir" and "director" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "choir" and "director" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
