Chapter Text
43:1 Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation. Oh, deliver me from deceitful and wicked men.
43:2 For you are the God of my strength. Why have you rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
43:3 Oh, send out your light and your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to your holy hill, To your tents.
43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy. I will praise you on the harp, God, my God.
43:5 Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.

The verse centers on "light", "vindicate", "plead", "cause", "against", "ungodly", "nation", and "deliver". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "light" and "vindicate", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.
The local WEB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "light" and "vindicate" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.
A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "light" and "vindicate" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
