Study Lenses

The verse centers on "greater", "honour", "latter", "house", "than", "former", "said", and "jehovah". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "greater" and "honour", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The nearby context moves from verse 8's "Mine FI is Fi the silver and..." into verse 10's "On the twenty and fourth of the...", so "greater" and "honour" belong inside that flow. In Haggai context, the local focus is covenant, worship, and faithfulness.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "greater" and "honour" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
