Study Lenses

The verse centers on "iniquities", "left", "you--they", "consume", "away", "iniquity", "lands", and "enemies". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "iniquities" and "left", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The nearby context moves from verse 38's "and ye have perished among the nations..." into verse 40's "And--they have confessed their iniquity and the...", so "iniquities" and "left" belong inside that flow. In Leviticus context, the local focus is covenant, worship, and faithfulness.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "iniquities" and "left" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
