149:1 Hallelujah! Sing unto Jehovah a new song; [sing] his praise in the congregation of the godly.

149:2 Let Israel rejoice in his Maker; let the sons of Zion be joyful in their King.

149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance; let them sing psalms unto him with the tambour and harp.

149:4 For Jehovah taketh pleasure in his people; he beautifieth the meek with salvation.

149:5 Let the godly exult in glory; let them shout for joy upon their beds.

149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand:

149:7 To execute vengeance against the nations, [and] punishment among the peoples;

149:8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

149:9 To execute upon them the judgment written. This honour have all his saints. Hallelujah!

The verse centers on "hallelujah", "sing", "jehovah", "song", "praise", "congregation", and "godly". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "hallelujah" and "sing", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local DBY text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "hallelujah" and "sing" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "hallelujah" and "sing" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
