Chapter Text

29:1 {A Psalm of David.} Give unto Jehovah, ye sons of the mighty ones, give unto Jehovah glory and strength;

29:2 Give unto Jehovah the glory of his name; worship Jehovah in holy splendour.

29:3 The voice of Jehovah is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth, Jehovah upon great waters.

29:4 The voice of Jehovah is powerful; the voice of Jehovah is full of majesty.

29:5 The voice of Jehovah breaketh cedars; yea, Jehovah breaketh the cedars of Lebanon:

29:6 And he maketh them to skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young buffalo.

29:7 The voice of Jehovah cleaveth out flames of fire.

29:8 The voice of Jehovah shaketh the wilderness; Jehovah shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

29:9 The voice of Jehovah maketh the hinds to calve, and layeth bare the forests; and in his temple doth every one say, Glory!

29:10 Jehovah sitteth upon the flood; yea, Jehovah sitteth as king for ever.

29:11 Jehovah will give strength unto his people; Jehovah will bless his people with peace.

The verse centers on "psalm", "david", "give", "jehovah", "sons", "mighty", and "ones". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "psalm" and "david", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local DBY text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "psalm" and "david" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "psalm" and "david" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
