Chapter Text

3:1 A Psalm of David. When he fled from Absalom his son. O Yahweh, how my adversaries have become many! Many are rising up against me.

3:2 Many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah.

3:3 But You, O Yahweh, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.

3:4 I was calling to Yahweh with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.

3:5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for Yahweh sustains me.

3:6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who all around have set themselves against me.

3:7 Arise, O Yahweh; save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.

3:8 Salvation belongs to Yahweh; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.

The verse centers on "psalm", "david", "fled", "absalom", "yahweh", "adversaries", "become", and "rising". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "psalm" and "david", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local LSB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "psalm" and "david" carries the first interpretive weight. In The LORD as Shepherd, the local focus is trust, covenant mercy, guidance, and worship.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "psalm" and "david" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
