Chapter Text

57:1 For the choir director. Al-tashheth. Of David. A Mikhtam. When he fled from Saul in the cave. Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by.

57:2 I will call to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me.

57:3 He will send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who tramples upon me. Selah. God will send His lovingkindness and His truth.

57:4 My soul is among lions; I am lying down among those who breathe forth fire, Sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows And their tongue a sharp sword.

57:5 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

57:6 They have set a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They dug a pit before me; They themselves have fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

57:7 My heart is set, O God, my heart is set; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!

57:8 Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

57:9 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.

57:10 For Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the skies.

57:11 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

The verse centers on "all things", "choir", "director", "al-tashheth", "david", "mikhtam", "fled", and "saul". It is saying that the verse draws attention to "all things" and "choir", so its meaning should be read from those terms before moving to application.

The local LSB text gives this verse as the immediate unit, so "all things" and "choir" carries the first interpretive weight. In Psalms context, the local focus is worship, trust, the LORD's kingship, and covenant mercy.

A plain takeaway is to answer the verse's own emphasis on "all things" and "choir" with trust shaped by these words, not by a vague optimism outside the passage.
